[Trevor Cox](https://blog.terrantic.com/blog/author/trevor-cox) Feb 21, 2025 ---   In the fast-paced world of agriculture and food processing, efficiency and data access are paramount. Yet, many organizations find themselves frustrated with outdated ERP systems that are difficult and costly to upgrade. At Terrantic, we're revolutionizing the way businesses approach ERP upgrades. *Modernizing ERP Systems:* Trevor Cox, founder of Terrantic, sheds light on a more effective method for upgrading ERP systems. Instead of enduring the time-consuming and expensive traditional ERP upgrade process, Terrantic advocates for creating parallel data systems. These modern data platforms can handle various data sources, including ERP data, machine data, and even Excel spreadsheets. By doing so, companies can automate data entry and migrate essential functions to the new system, piece by piece. *Isolating the General Ledger (GL):* One crucial step in this process is isolating the general ledger (GL). By moving non-essential components out of the ERP system and into the modern data platform, businesses can significantly reduce the risk of project failure and save on costs. Functions such as production planning, order management, CRM, HR, and labor management can be efficiently transitioned to the new system. *Reducing Costs and Improving Efficiency:* This systematic approach not only lowers the risk of failure but also makes the entire process more affordable. Modern systems are cheaper to implement and maintain, allowing businesses to focus on running their operations without being bogged down by outdated ERP systems. *Customer Feedback:* Feedback from growers and packinghouses echoes the frustrations many face with traditional ERP systems. The inability to access and combine data effectively is a common complaint. However, there is hope. By adopting Terrantic’s innovative approach, businesses can finally break free from the limitations of their old ERP systems and enjoy better data access and cost savings. In conclusion, Terrantic's approach to ERP upgrades offers a clear path out of the frustrations associated with traditional systems. By isolating the GL and creating parallel data systems, businesses can achieve a seamless transition, improved efficiency, and significant cost savings.
